Effects of Business Losses With High Insurance Claims

Effects of business losses with high insurance claims (workers compensation).

While every person would love to reduce their monthly bills, business losses with high insurance claims and workers compensation can help to offset medical costs, if the injury is real. When this happens, you are able to claim your medical bills under your company's insurance, allowing them to pay for the injury you sustained at work. If the injury is real and you ask for genuine workers compensation then nobody can deny you the claim. But if you try to exaggerate the injury or sickness or milk it longer than is necessary by claiming more money from the source that has given you bread and butter for a long time in your life, the company can turn around and come after you for falsifying your documents and stealing for the company.

With workers compensation a person can claim the medical expenses from injuries sustained by him or her while working for the company. However, many people exaggerate their injuries as well as their medical expenses in an attempt to get more money from the company. This can also be done by documenting an extended period of time for recovery from the injuries sustained. This causes the company more burdens from the insurance and as such places a particular burden on the boss of the company but also the co-workers and friends who work at the same company. The worst case scenarios are a company may go into a loss if it is a small company and trying to make ends meet. If a company is mid-sized then there might be cuts in salary for the employees and also possible cancellation of bonuses at the end of the fiscal year.

Thus we should try to be more careful at work in order to avoid such situations, which may lead to drastic steps taken by the company. Create an effective policy for on the job injuries. The one thing that I have learned over time is employee will always try to milk the system if you allow them to. Hire an established professional to look at your insurance program. As I mentioned before creating an effective return to work plan is critical to cutting your losses. Along with making sure that your "special account instructions" with your insurance carrier. Keeping control and be notified on all major issues cuts down on cost. Insurance company make there money on handling each claim.

Lean Concepts in Agriculture and Food Industry

I was fascinated about the concept of lean manufacturing since I first read the articles on lean manufacturing. Then when I conducted few researches on lean manufacturing I understood that lean is the path for future.

But one question continuously I asked myself is the possibility of applying lean manufacturing concepts in the field of agriculture and food industry. Agriculture is traditionally based on bulk manufacturing. Harvesting is done once a season most of the times and stocked and used later. In fact some lean thinkers say that people adopted batch processing and stocking in manufacturing as a result of the practices from agricultural thinking. Before the industrialization people with the biggest stocks of food and other supplies were considered as more stable and they were able to face challenges of nature without having to starve. People with time develop the concept of having more stocks is better. When people gradually moved to industrialization, still the concept of maintaining big safety stocks hasn't changed according to these lean thinkers.

Agriculture is an industry which requires a new way of thinking. Traditional methods have lots of wastes and inefficiencies build into them. According to some researches more than 20% of agricultural products become unusable before it reach the end consumer in some countries. This offers any lean thinker a good opportunity to explore the possibilities of implementing lean concepts in this area. Even if we can reduce this waste by half we will be reducing the number of people dying due to starvation.

Just in time manufacturing may not be possible in the field of agriculture. But the distribution, handling methods etc can be improved with the techniques like JIT and kaizen. By educating people and using simple technology waste can be reduced dramatically. Effectively connecting the manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers and retailers up to the customer is very necessary to improve the effectiveness of the process.

Maintaining A Healthy Diet While At Work

One of the problems that many of us face when we work for a living is the fact that it can be quite difficult to eat healthily through the day. As a matter of fact, we may find that we are simply grabbing something as quick as possible from vending machines or candy machines that may be at our place of business. Quite obviously, this is not going to result in our having the optimum health that we would desire and it can actually cause problems in the long run that are difficult to control. That being said, what are some of the things that you can do to ensure that you are eating as healthy as possible when you are stuck at work?

One of the more obvious points to eating healthy is the fact that you must be prepared in advance. If you are leaving everything to chance, it is likely that you are going to be hitting one of the candy machines in your office at sometime during the day. This can be disastrous for your waistline, as well as your overall health. If you plan in advance, on the other hand, and bring yourself some food that is healthier than what comes out of the vending machines at work, you will be in a better position. What are some of the options that are open to you?

Some people find that it is very beneficial to do all of their cooking on one or two days every week. If you cook on the weekend, it is often possible for you to cook enough that you will be good for the majority of the week. Having the food prepared in advance and even distributed in smaller Tupperware containers will make it easy for you to grab a pre-prepared lunch and take it with you in the morning. This will help you to avoid the fast food restaurants and the other unhealthy options that are available to you in the work environment.

Another thing that you are going to need in order to be successful with eating healthy is proper motivation. When you are first starting some type of a healthy eating regime, it can be very difficult to stick with it for the long run. As a matter of fact, it is often estimated that you have to go at least 21 days without a particular food or type of food before it becomes a habit. If you are able to stick with it for that long, you may just find that you are able to avoid it for the rest of your life.

One final thing that you should consider is the fact that being healthy is not just a matter of eating healthy. Exercise and getting plenty of rest are also going to play key parts in being healthy at work and in your home environment. Get outside and get some fresh air when possible and if all you can do is walk, by all means go for a walk. The more you spend time exercising, the less you will have a problem with your health.

Low-Down on Podcasting - Part Two

Last time we talked about how to record the raw material for a podcast. This month we are going to look at how you can edit it, add background music and output a finished MP3 file for your internet or intranet site.

If you followed my instructions last time you should have a .WAV or .MP3 file. If your recorder is an Olympus there is a chance that it is in the.WMA format. If so, we need to convert it to .WAV before we can go any further.

This isn't too difficult - there are convertor packages available on the net. One is Switch, which is available for both Mac and PC.

While you are connected you also need to download an audio editing program. You can spend a small fortune on these, but the one I recommend is free. It is called Audacity and is open source. Don't laugh - it is easily as good as paid-for options.

So Google Audacity and download it. While you are on the Audacity web site download the LAME encoding software too. This is also free and will let you output MP3 files from Audacity.

Once you have installed both you are ready to go.

If you now open up the audio you recorded earlier using Audacity you will see the waveform on the screen. Pressing play will let you review your audio and you will see the progress bar move across the waveform as it does so.

You can zoom in to take a closer look. In fact, I recommend you do just that. Now, to edit out any "umms and aahs" just click and drag over the audio you want to remove and press delete. As the Meerkat would say: "Simples!".

If you have recorded a separate intro for your interview you can now highlight this, copy it and paste it onto the front of the interview audio. It is all quite intuitive.

What about music? You can't just go and steal any piece of music you like as you would be in breach of copyright. However, there is a lot of podcast-ready music out there that you can buy and even pod-safe music that you use for free.

Two sites worth looking at are Podsafeaudio and MusicAlley.

If you want to have background music with your speech that can also be accomplished. Create a new track and paste your music into that. You can adjust the volume of the music using the pinch tool, which looks like two small triangles with a piece of tape running through the middle. Now if you play the track you will hear your voice and the music.

Once your audio is edited you are nearly there. Save the project and then use the "File>>Export as WAV" option to output your finished audio. I know that ultimately we need an MP3 file, but bear with me.

The trouble with mixing various pieces of audio together is that you you end up with differing audio levels. This can be hard to fix manually, but there is an easy way to do it.

Google Levelator - there are versions for Mac and PC. Now drag and drop your output WAV file to Levelator and let it work its magic. It will give you yet another WAV file with perfectly corrected audio levels.

Open this file with Audacity again and you are nearly there. First we need to set the MP3 quality level. Go to the Audacity preferences, select "File Formats" and set the MP3 bit rate to 64kbps. This is good enough for speech and will usually play over the net quite happily without stuttering or stalling. Now use the "File>>Export as MP3" option.

There you have it - your finished edited MP3 file.

Next time we will look at how you can play it on your web or intranet site and integrate it with iTunes.

Back to School Show & Tell

One thing you can count on during the first days of school is the inevitable question of "What did you do over the summer?" Here are a few creative ways to describe your summer experiences for the first edition of Show and Tell.   1. Flip Books Create a moving picture of your summer fun with a flip book. Start out with a Post-It pad or a pocket-sized spiral notebook. Draw the first picture on the last sheet of paper and work your way to the first page by changing the picture little by little. For instance, if you learned how to surf over the summer, you might start with a picture of you lying on a surfboard in calm waters. The next picture could show the waters growing a little choppier. The following drawings could be of you slowly turning, then standing on the board as the wave grows larger, and so on.   2. Summer Collage Illustrate your summer happenings with one of my favorite forms: collages. Simply use glue to cover a poster board or even several small postcard-sized papers with magazine cutouts, sections of road maps, photographs, movie and concert ticket stubs, restaurant menus, train schedules, and any other mementos from your summer.   3. Map It Instead of just telling the class where you went and what you did, pinpoint our summer destinations and activities on a map. If you stayed close to home, use a local road map. If you were able to travel to several cities and states, use a countrywide map. Glue magazine cutouts of activities, or actual photos of your fun onto the map. For example, if you went to a dude ranch in Dallas, glue a picture of a horse onto the map in Dallas. If you visited Mount Rushmore, glue a photo of your family onto the map in South Dakota. The same goes for rock climbing, swimming, snorkeling, and anything else you had a chance to enjoy over the summer months.   4. Seashell Memories Capture every fun moment of summer vacation on seashells. If you didn't get a chance to go to the beach, don't worry-most craft and hobby stores sell bags of seashells. Use acrylic paint and a clean paintbrush to paint pictures inside the shells. My son's summer shells feature an octopus in the ocean (from snorkeling-we didn't actually see an octopus, but he wishes he had), a colorful clown from a friend's birthday party, an airplane in the clouds, and the night sky filled with stars and a bright crescent moon.

What Are Thematic Units?

Thematic units are a multi-disciplinary approach to teaching based on a common theme or topic. Multi-disciplinary simply means, "of or relating to many different subject areas." The teacher and/or students choose a topic based on their interests and learning goals. Engagement in this decision-making process develops a vested interest. This significantly increases motivation. Research shows that when learners are motivated, achievement increases!

Thematic units allow students to make connections and build more solid schema. Learning becomes purposeful when they can identify a common theme in all content areas, such as math, reading, science, social studies. The content areas are not limited to core areas. Thematic units are even more powerful when art, physical education, music, technology, etc. are involved. When all content areas focus around a common theme, students gain an awareness of the interrelationships making learning more relevant. In addition, this allows for greater application of essential skills in all areas of life.

The duration of a unit may vary depending on the chosen theme. Some may extend several weeks, and some may last a few short days. Teachers are cautioned not to extend these lesson plans over too long of a period. Allow enough time for deeper levels of understanding but not so long to lose interest and limit time for other explorations.

Many teachers are fearful that themes chosen by children will deter from the common core learning objectives. However, it must be noted that the essential skills may be taught in any learning context. Here are some examples:

Theme: Penguins

Math: Grade level math skills are learned with penguin graphics and manipulatives, such as counting, exploring population, word problems and more. Reading: Penguin stories improve reading strategies to increase comprehension. Language Arts: Vocabulary concepts are increased with penguin related words. English conventions are revealed when writing or speaking about penguins. Science: Utilize comparing and contrasting skills to explore how these creatures differ from other birds. Social Studies: Research and gain map skills to determine where these animals live. Art: Art skills are used to create a habitat. Music: Examine musical pieces from popular penguin movies. Compose original songs. Physical Education: Build and participate in obstacle courses while following movements of this animal. Writing: Students incorporate grade level writing skills while writing fiction or nonfiction stories about the subject.

Theme: Chocolate

Math: Candy pieces are used as manipulatives to learn math concepts and skills. Reading: Read about the Cacao tree and use reading strategies for new concepts and comprehension. Language Arts: A reader's theatre is created using English conventions and new vocabulary.Science: Describe the changes of matter that occur when chocolate is processed from the bean to the bar. Social Studies: Research chocolate factories around the world, their location, history, etc. Economic skills may also be addressed. Art: Candy wrappers are used to create an original collage. Music: Explore musical pieces from popular chocolate factory movies. Physical Education: Create games creating movement through a factory. Writing: Poetry skills are enriched through writing activities about the topic.

It is important for teachers to answer the question, "What are thematic units?" This multidisciplinary approach engages students in learning that is based on a common theme in all subject areas. It can have profound effect on student achievement!

Review: eBook Secrets Exposed

If you want to make a lot of money with your own eBook and you only read one book on the subject in the next 12 months, I strongly recommend that it's 'eBook Secrets Exposed' by Jim Edwards and David Garfinkel.

The authors are both well qualified in this area. Jim Edwards has written five best-selling eBooks (including 'The Lazy Man's Guide to Online Business' and '33 Days To Online Success').

David Garfinkel is considered by many to be the world's greatest copyrighting coach. He's an award-winning business journalist and is also the author of several best-selling eBooks, such as 'Advertising Headlines That Make You Rich' and 'Killer Copy Tactics'.

There have been so many books on this subject that I really couldn't imagine how this book could add anything new.

But I have never before seen an eBook that explains so clearly how to do it. I got the feeling that you could literally walk in Jim Edwards' footsteps and get the same results he did (over 4,500 eBook sales in 9 months).

What makes this book very readable and enjoyable is that it's simply a long interview - David Garfinkel asks the questions and Jim Edwards gives the answers.

The book is packed with so many 'insider tips' that's it's difficult to know where to begin, but one of the most valuable tips is how to find out - before you write your book - if there's a market for it.

You do this by following Jim Edwards' 5-Step 'Ultimate eBook Success Formula'. The formula allows you to find out if there's a target audience that is already actively looking for the information you're about to sell online. And if so, if they are prepared to pay for it.

One of the interesting things you'll discover in this book is that competition is actually good for your eBook.

If you come up with an idea for an eBook and you find that there are no competing books, you need to get worried - it means there's probably no market for that idea.

But if there are books competing with yours, you're on safe ground - you know you have a market.

And don't be put off by competition: anyone who is serious about a particular subject will buy at least 4 or 5 books on that topic.

Many eBook authors who make big money quickly with their eBooks do resale rights. Instead of making $29 per sale, they're making $99 per sale. As you can see, resale rights can get you into serious money very fast.

But there are definite pitfalls with resale rights (such as finding out a few months later that your cherished information product has become a free eBook). If you want to avoid these pitfalls, you need to read Section 2 carefully.

You might think that best-selling eBook authors don't bother with affiliate programs. Wrong!

Jim Edwards shows you that one of secrets to making money with your eBook is to load it up with back-end affiliate links. But there's a right way to do this and a wrong way (more about this in Section 5).

But the real secret to how Jim Edwards made over $40,000 in one month from a single eBook is joint ventures - finding people with lists of 10,000 or even 100,000 and getting them to do a personal recommendation to their readers.

On the Internet it's not products that make money, it's lists (products don't sell, lists do). Or as Jim Edwards puts it: 'the power is in the pipes, in the distribution'.

Let's say your eBook is priced at $29 and you find someone with a list of 10,000 and they do a mailing that results in 3000 people turning up at your website.

And let's say that those 3000 visits result in 90 to 180 sales - you and your joint venture partner are suddenly making thousands of dollars in a few days.

Jim Edwards shows you exactly, step-by-step, how to set up a joint venture. He even shows you the exact same letter that he used to set up joint ventures for his book 'How To Write and Publish Your Own eBook in a little as 7 Days'.

One of the keys to making joint ventures work is what Jim Edwards calls 'the Santa Claus technique' (more on that in Section 2).

A question many people have is how to price their eBook. And it's crucial that you get this right. In Section 4 Jim Edwards reveals his 'pricing formula' - a very clever way to find your eBook's 'breakpoint' or equilibrium.

There's another very valuable tip in Section 17 - 'My Secret Method For Slashing Refunds' (this tip on it's own could be worth the price of the whole book).

This is the best book on eBook publishing I've read in the last 18 months - in fact, while reading it, I came up with the idea for my next eBook!

Recording Podcasts With Transcription in Mind

Podcasts are serial video or audio digital files available over the internet either for streaming or download. Podcasts can essentially be any form of recordings including; recorded lectures, news updates, guided museum / city tours, business meetings and sermons as well as a number of other audio recordings. When recording any audio or video podcasts, the transcription process should be factored in mind. The success of the transcription process relies largely on the quality of the recorded podcasts.

The preparation phase should be meticulously structured. The production process varies with different recording environments, and set backs should always be expected. Source for the recording equipment required, well in advance, and carry out test recordings to learn how to properly handle the equipment.

Prepare a script or list of interview questions to be used for the recording. Rehearse the script and time yourself to determine how long it would take to complete the recording process. Send the list of interview questions to the interviewee, before the day of the recording, so that they can also prepare for the interview. Indicate how long you intend to record the interview session so that the interviewee can structure their answers with time in mind.

Select an ideal location for the recording to minimize on distortions and interruptions. The quality of the recording is affected by the environment where the recording is taking place. Indoor locations can be better controlled during a recording. Make sure to, kindly; ask for consideration from parties around the recording area, to turn off any audio interrupters such as cell phones, computers and televisions. On the actual recording day; walk the interviewee, or any party involved in the recording, through the entire process. Not everyone is familiar with the requirements of an audio / video recording and it is therefore important to let them know what is expected from them. Warm them up before commencing the actual recording process.

If possible record the podcast in bits. Pause when switching to different topics or questions to give the interviewee time to collect their chain of thoughts. Mistakes should not be taken as a set back, simply pause and run through the section again. Try and maintain a conversational tone, which will in turn steer the interviewee to provide flowing and conversational answers, which is ideal for podcasts.

Monitor the recording process, using headphones, to make sure that you are capturing the desired audio. Get an audio engineer to record the session; if you can afford it.

CPC VS CPA

Nowadays technology has been restructured and it is good to use online advertising to make money online. Google has been doing this since the day it was established and now it has emerged as a giant of advertisement in this world. Google has used smart advertising techniques to gain the number one status in the world and still looking for innovative and new advertising techniques to generate more revenue online and to maintain its leading status in the world. Not only Google, but many other online publishers have also been using online advertising techniques to earn money online and any of them have become self made millionaires by doing so. Many of the online publishers uses CPC advertising and a fair number of publishers use CPA advertising. Both advertising have their own benefits which are discussed in detail.

CPC is an abbreviation of Cost Per Click. As the name reflects it is the cost of a click. The idea is simple, whenever someone clicks any banner ad or any other ad then the advertiser has to pay some amount. Google AdSense has been using this technique of online advertising for a long period of time. A major back draw of this technique is that the publisher who publishes the ad or the webmasters are not able to earn good sum of money using CPC because they just can't force the visitor of their website to click on the ad. The price which is agreed upon between the advertiser and the publisher is very less and is usually in a few cents per click. This shows that how cheap CPC is. General statistics say that at least 50% of your website visitors should click on the ad so that you can make a fair amount of profit.

Now the next question which arises in your mind is that what is CPA? So the answer to your question is that CPA stands for Cost Per Action. As the name suggests it is the cost which the advertiser has to pay when any action is taken on the advertisement. CPA is the second most popular technique of advertisement after AdSense. The publisher of the ad is able to get good amount of profit by using CPA technique. CPA is a lot different from CPC as in CPA income is dependent of the actions performed on the ad. In other words action can be sales made. For example there is a company which offers a 5% commission to the publisher if their product is sold successfully. So when the sales are closed than the publisher will get 5% on all the items which are sold using that ad.

A summary of the whole discussion is given below:

CPC generates revenue when the ad is clicked. On the other hand CPA generates revenue when the ad is clicked and some specified action is performed on it like any item is sold using that ad.

CPC advertising requires huge traffic to make it profitable but in CPA you don't need to have huge traffic you need to have potential buyers of your product.

Super Secret Tip For Using PPC Search Engine Advertising Successfully

It's not about traffic; it's about generating leads. That's right. It only took me eight words to give you the secret super tip on using pay-per-click (PPC) search engines successfully. It's not about generating traffic to your website; it's about generating leads from the traffic for which you are paying. This slight shift in understanding about where the value resides in PPC search engines could make all the difference when it comes to capitalizing on the web promotional resource known as PPC.

How are you currently using PPC?

Most (and this is spoken from experience) PPC advertisers bid on tens of thousands of keywords and direct all of that traffic to the same page on their website. While it is a good idea to use as many keywords and key phrases as possible in your overall PPC marketing campaigns, what a prospect finds when they visit your landing page is more important.

How should you be using PPC?

If you are you only trying to "make the sale," you could be losing the visitors who are looking for information about your products or services. By exchanging informational sales material for a prospect's contact information, you will dramatically increase your long-term return on investment.

Research has shown that when customers are knowledgeable about the products and services they are seeking, they are more likely in the future to buy from the organization that provided them the information in the first place. If you are paying one cent per visitor and receive just five sign-ups for a newsletter, you have already covered your costs because the average value of one qualified email address is over twenty-five cents! So to answer the question of how you should be using PPC, you should use it not just to make direct sales, but to generate leads.

Putting it into practice:

There are many ways that successful web marketers get Internet surfers to provide personal information. The most preferred are 1) surveys and contests in exchange for a "freebie" and 2) newsletters and articles, which provide information about what the surfer is searching for. To put this into practice, promote a page that equally 1) provides information about your product or service and 2) emphasizes your special offer or offering. You will see that even if they don't directly purchase the product or service you are selling, chances increase exponentially that they will want to find out more information and sign up for your special offer thus providing you with a qualified lead.

How to Craft a Successful Newsletter

Newsletters are a great way for dentists to reach their clients and potential clients, as well as stay top of mind. Many brands use newsletters to contact, inform, and learn from their customers. There are several key pieces of advice to heed when creating a newsletter for the first time.

Have A Plan

When creating a newsletter for your readers, it is important to begin with a plan. Do not just start a newsletter because your competitors have one, or because it seems easy. Take your time in evaluating how often you will communicate with your customers, and what you will talk about when you send out emails. Will you send an email quarterly, bi-monthly, or once a month? Decide what you will write about - promotions, sales, office news, industry news, or some combination. Ensure that whatever you write about, you stick to it. Don't tempt your clients with promises of relevant updates and send them pitches to buy new services every month.

Promote Your Letter

There's no sense in having an email newsletter if you don't have a list to send it to. There are several ways you can gain readers who want your content delivered to their inbox. The first step to take is to promote your newsletter on your website -each page should feature a box that visitors can easily fill out to sign up for your emails. When you go to events with potential clients or other dental professionals, have the information about your newsletter with you and prompt them to sign up. Also make sure you are promoting your newsletter on social networks your practice is active on, such as Facebook and Twitter.

Another easy way to gain new readers is to add a sign-up section on your new patient paperwork, but don't just ask them for their email address and throw in a box for them to check. Explain the benefits of receiving the newsletter, such as, "By signing up for our newsletter, you will be kept up-to-date with relevant news concerning our office and general, relevant oral health news." Letting your patients know that the intent of your newsletter is to inform, instead of trying to sell them something, could be your ticket to getting a sign-up.

Pay Attention

Your clients are already telling you what they want to hear from you... even if they don't realize it. If you have two clients in a month asking you about the benefits 3D X-rays, you should take that as a clue to add some information in about the process in your next email blast.

Be Social

Newsletters are an excellent way to stay in contact with your readers, but they are especially helpful if they are integrated into the rest of your social strategy. Include reminders about your Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn pages in each message - even if this is simply a link back to your profile, your readers will find other ways to connect with your practice.

Know Your Reader

Let your readers get involved in your newsletter! Ask them for suggestions and opinions. Readers should get to know who is writing them messages - let the author's personality shine, and your readership will surely improve.

Overall, newsletters are an excellent way to reach your clients and gain new prospects. As long as you carefully create a plan, pay attention to what your clients want to read, and stay consistent, your newsletter will see success.
